In celebration of his highly anticipated fifth studio album ‘More Love, Less Ego,’ Wizkid joins Dotty at The Roundhouse for an exclusive interview.
Streamed across Apple Music channels at 8PM GMT, the pair take a deep dive into the Nigerian trailblazer’s latest body of work, representing his sound globally and maintaining his artistic integrity.
Since his 2010 debut album ‘Superstar’, Wizkid has become one of the most influential artists to shape contemporary, popular music. Frequently referred to as the ‘Ambassador of Africa,’ he responds to the responsibility that comes with his new-found moniker:
“I’m trying as much as possible to be, to take this substance to the highest of the highest heights. I wanna show the kids from back home, there’s nothing you can’t do, right?”
‘More Love, Less Ego’ is an outward venture in its influences, equally highlighting Wizkid’s imprint across afrobeats. The likes of ‘Bad To Me’ see the artist lean into the uptempos of amapiano, a celebratory highlight that extends his discography’s versatile approach. Proving a mixed bag of collaborators, the tracklist invites Don Toliver’s melodic raps for the very first time, whilst re-kindling Wizkid and Skepta on the infectious ‘Wow’. Other features include Ayra Starr, Skillibeng, Shenseea and Naira Marley.
When asked about the limitations of any given genre, Wizkid reflects: “I make all types of music. There’s nothing I can’t make. I don’t put myself in a box. I’m a musician from Africa, but first things first, I’m a musician”.
The interview comes ahead of the singer-songwriter’s Apple Music Live Performance, an evening to share the stage with his most dedicated fans. The performance will be available to stream on Monday, November 14th at 8PM, via this link.
