CLASH continues its collaboration with VERO True Social foregrounding talent via their Amplify series, offering insight into the creative forces driving the next wave of emerging performers.
Now, we shift the spotlight to Baltimore-born, LA-based artist Lauren Ruth Ward.
From the age of 13, Ward found solace in performance art, in the sacred exchange between artist and audience: “The beautiful part of making music is the way people connect with the songs. I don’t always know where we’re going when a show begins, but it is always cathartic and beautiful.”
Enthused by the anarchic influence of Led Zeppelin, Elliot Smith and Fleetwood Mac, Ward has developed a sound that fuses elements of folk, alt-rock and pop to push her self-expression further as a queer musician. In 2016, Ward released her self-titled debut EP merging wry candour with elegies about love and displacement; her warm, honeyed tones the foundation for insular folk tales. Now, the singer gears up for the release of her upcoming EP, ‘Mindseye’ – revealing a moodier, cerebral and downtempo dimension to her artistry.
As part of VERO Amplify’s Deep Dives 5 interview, Ward reveals her dream collaborations, the piece of wisdom that has guided her throughout her career and more.
Ward also performs an acoustic rendition of new single, the raw confessional ‘Suburban Ego’.
