The band celebrates the American tradition of Dixieland jazz at every performance. Their music ranges from blue and cool to bright and brassy, recalling the warm and humid languor of the Mississippi River port where it all began – New Orleans. The Wings of Dixie is the only ensemble of its kind representing the United States Air Forces in Europe and has been in existence for more than a decade. In traditional fashion, the Wings of Dixie preserve such favorites as Bourbon Street Parade and South Rampart Street Parade as well as cool mellow blues like St. James Infirmary and Basin Street Blues. Toss in some hand-clapping, toe-tapping ragtime standards and top it all off with a true second line to When the Saints Go Marchin’ In and you have jazz – the music of New Orleans!
