O’Malley (18-1 MMA) and Vera (23-9 MMA) originally collided at UFC 252 in August of 2020, with ‘Chito’ emerging victorious in the first round after ‘Suga’ suffered an ankle injury.
Since their first encounter, Sean O’Malley has gone 5-0 (1 no-contest) capturing the promotion‘s bantamweight title in the process. ‘Suga’ was last seen in action at UFC 292, where he dethroned Aljamain Sterling with a second-round TKO victory.
Meanwhile, Marlon Vera also most recently competed at UFC 292 in August of last year, where he scored a unanimous decision win over Pedro Munhoz. That victory got ‘Chito’ back in the win column, as he was previously defeated by Cory Sandhagen by split decision.

Round one of the UFC 299 main event begins and Marlon Vera opens with a front kick to the thigh of the champ. He swings and misses with a head kick attempt. Sean O’Malley with a nice front kick to the body followed by a low kick. Both men with kicks to the body. ‘Suga’ lands a spinning back kick to the body. He follows that up with one to the ribs. O’Malley with a nice low kick. ‘Chito’ replies with one of his own. ‘Suga’ with a right hand and then a low kick. Vera comes forward and lands a low kick of his own. Sean O’Malley with a right hand to the body. Vera comes back with a 1-2 but those punches were both blocked. ‘Suga’ with a nice straight left. Marlon Vera with a kick to the body and then a nice left behind it. The bantamweights trade low kicks. ‘Chito’ just misses with a head kick. He lands a follow up low kick but then eats a jab from the champ. ‘Suga’ with a pair of good body shots. Vera leaps in with a left. O’Malley counters with a body kick. ‘Suga’ with a jab and then a body shot to close out round one.
Round two of the UFC 299 main event begins and Sean O’Malley lands a nice spinning back kick. The fighters trade kicks to the body. ‘Chito’ leaps in with a left and then a low kick. ‘Suga’ replies with two good low kicks. Vera goes upstairs with a high kick but it is blocked. O’Malley is landing most of shots early on. He connects with a nice 1-2. ‘Chito’ answers with a low kick. Vera attempts a body kick, but Sean catches it and then cracks him with a right hand. Sean O’Malley is noticeably faster in the striking. He lands a good 1-2. Another exchange of body kicks. ‘Chito’ with a nice jab. He leaps into the pocket with a 1-2. O’Malley with a big knee in return. That stunned the challenger. ‘Suga’ with a 1-2 now. Marlon Vera appears to be ok. Sean tags him with another 1-2. He is looking for the finish now. He connects with a solid right through the guard. ‘Chito’ with a body kick and then a big right of his own. ‘Suga’ replies with a high kick. O’Malley with a jab and then another. He land a right hand and Vera goes down to a knee. The horn sounds to end round two.

Round three of the UFC 299 headliner begins and Marlon Vera lands a nice combination to start. Sean O’Malley cracks him with another hard right hand. ‘Suga’ rips the body and then goes upstairs with another right. ‘Chito’ comes forward with a flurry but nothing lands flush. O’Malley with a right hand and then a left behind it. Vera goes to the body with a kick. ‘Suga’ replies with a low kick. Vera is turtling up every time Sean O’Malley comes forward. ‘Suga’ with a big left. ‘Chito’ leaps in with a counter shot that misses the mark. Another big knee and then a right hand from the champ. Marlon Vera leaps in and lands a nice right hand. He follows that up with a jab and then a head kick. He slips and the horn sounds to end round three.
Round four of the UFC 299 main event begins and Sean O’Malley looks to establish his jab early. Marlon Vera comes in with a big combination. He needs to continue to apply pressure as ‘Suga’ is just sniping him from the outside. ‘Chito’ with a nice body shot. O’Malley replies with a left hand. Another left from the champ followed by a calf kick. Vera rushes in and lands a flurry of strikes. He needs more of that. Sean O’Malley gets back to range and lands a nice low kick. Marlon Vera with a good flurry and then a solid jab. O’Malley is bleeding from his nose now. Still, he trips Vera down to the floor. ‘Chito’ pops back up but eats a body kick. Vera gets inside and lands a nice left. Two minutes remain in the fourth frame. ‘Suga’ goes to the body and then lands a right hand over the top. Vera with a front kick to the body. He follows that up with a low kick. The crowd chants “Chito”. The challenger answers by throwing a flurry but he gets caught with a big counter by the champ. Another hard 1-2 from ‘Suga’. Vera leaps in with a nice left hook. O’Malley responds with a right hand. Vera with a low kick. The horn sounds to end round four.
The fifth and final round of the UFC 299 main event begins and Marlon Vera lands a hard low kick. Sean O’Malley responds with a big shot and ‘Chito’ appears to be hurt. ‘Suga’ smells blood and goes in for the kill. He lands a big knee and then a right hand to the body. A head kick now from the champ. Vera looks to come forward but just ends up getting tagged by shots. O’Malley has looked so sharp all night. Marlon Vera finds a home for a left hook. ‘Suga’ replies with a kick to the ribs. Another good shot, this time a spinning back kick. ‘Chito’ lands a good knee. Sean O’Malley answers with one of his own. Vera applying some late pressure. He lands a left to the head and then one to the body to close out the fight.
