Alice Longyu Gao is charting tomorrow’s pop vision. A truly boundary-less creator, she seems equally at home in the heavy, alt world than gleaming pop futurism, somehow finding a bridge between those two realms.

Part of a loose-knit globe-spanning community, she splits her time between New York and Los Angeles. Having recently collab’d with Oli Sykes from Bring Me The Horizon, she infuses recent singles like ‘Rich Bitch Juice’ and ‘I <3 Harajuku’ with precocious intensity.

New track ‘MONK’ takes this a step further – truly transgressive pop music, as heavy as it is futuristic, it’s an explicit rollercoaster, with Alice Longyu Gao spitting her truth at ear-splitting volume.

A first generation Chinese immigrant, the lyrics play with ideas of multi-layered identity, with Alice trying to pin down her place in the world. Pushing back against the barriers, the song becomes a vessel for freedom, on both a personal and aesthetic level.

Backed with some startling visuals, you can check out ‘MONK’ below.
