Biyi isn’t about to follow trends. An artist who only releases material that he feels deeply within himself, his music evades description. Essentially UK rap with the flexibility of jazz, his excellent EP ‘The Fix’ won praise on its 2021 release.

Since then he’s been through a lot. Working continuously, Biyi – who is also a talented athlete, and a passionate rugby player – applies a real physicality to his work, envisaging songs as three-dimensional objects.

Reminiscent in places of Chicago artist Saba, or the loose-knit artistry of Tom Misch, Biyi pushes himself hard. He comments: “My favourite style of writing is intense, vulnerable and introspective. I struggle with speaking to people, so I feel like if I put my thoughts to music then at least I’ve still said them out loud in a way. My music is a manifestation of  what’s burning inside me, trying desperately to get out.”

New single ‘Jet Flight’ marks his return. Production comes from Ahmed Shareefy, and it’s a savage piece of reflection. Biyi reveals the song taps into “the feeling when you lock eyes with someone from your past and it seems like time froze. You still feel youthful like when you first met them because the love is still there. You realise they’ve low-key been on your mind the whole time apart, so if they’re down to make it work, you’re ready to go wherever just to prove it. To me is hopeful – like I am.”

Tune in now.
