Track Of The Day 2/11 – Girl Scout

Girl Scout never intended for their year to go like this – it just kinda happened.

Four musicians who bonded while studying jazz at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, their extra-curricular activities soon took over their lives. Spending the wee small hours writing scuzzy indie pop songs reminiscent of Big Thief or Phoebe Bridgers, Girl Scout hit the festival trail this summer and never looked back.

Perhaps the buzziest four-some in Swedish music right now – move over, ABBA! – the band close the year by confirming a massive tour support slot alongside Coach Party. Oh, and a new single, too.

‘All The Time And Everywhere’ is out now, a neat indie pop burner that locates the fine balance between sugar-sweet melody and lyrical melancholia. It’s fun, punchy, and leaves an impact – a pristine pop song that harks back to the 90s, it finds Girl Scout laying out a mini-manifesto for their indie thrills.

“We have spent several years playing and studying jazz full time, but being stuck at home in the midst of a pandemic took away the usual environment of jam sessions and transcribing, and made room for playing for our own pleasure,” they say. “We found ourselves playing the kind of music that had gotten us hooked from the start, bands from the 90s and the Britpop revival among other things. Going back to guitar driven songs in the classic band format felt refreshing to us, almost like it was new again.”

Set to hit London venue Servants Jazz Quarters on November 9th, Girl Scout have also shared a new video for the single, shot on Super 8 during their time on the road this summer.

Girl Scout comment…

“In between shows and travels we waste time by doing stupid stuff and this one time when we were in Umeå, in north of Sweden, we filmed a whole day while waiting to play a festival that same night. It’s basically a video-guide in how to waste 8 hours in parks and hotel rooms.”
