Tommy Fury and Jake Paul could be fighting again, but this time in MMA.
Fury and Paul boxed last February with the Brit winning by split decision. Since then, Paul has been adamant he wants the rematch, and his team has reportedly offered Fury a two-fight rematch, but it has a unique clause.
According to Nakisa Bidarian, Paul’s business partner and the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, Fury has been offered a two-fight deal that would see the rematch be in boxing. But, if Paul wins and they would be 1-1 against each other, they would have a trilogy in MMA in the PFL.
“Jake has said to Tommy he’s willing to fight him in boxing, and if Jake wins, he’s willing to enter the SmartCage in PFL with Tommy and again give him another payday close to eight figures to do that,” Bidarian said to ESPN. “So, there’s a path there where it’s worth close to $20 million of guaranteed money to reengage in the Jake Paul competition, effectively.”
PFL is on board with the plan as Donn Davis told ESPN, that Tommy Fury would make between $15 million and $20 million combined for the two fights, which Davis says would be the most money Fury could get for a fight.
Currently, Fury hasn’t responded to the offer from Jake Paul and his team, but it doesn’t seem likely he would be too interested in a fight in MMA.
Since beating Paul, Tommy Fury went on to defeat KSI by decision. Paul, meanwhile, defeated Nate Diaz and then knocked out Andre August. He will return to the ring on March 2 against Ryan Bourland who is another pro boxer as Paul says that proves he’s looking to become a world champion boxer when Fury isn’t.
“We all know everyone tries to price themselves out if they don’t really want to fight and hide behind that,” Paul said of Fury. “So, I think that’s where things are. But regardless, I’m on a different mission to become world champion, and all doors for Tommy lead to me. I can do whatever I want, which is the beauty — and what I want is to be world champion. And that’s my path.”
