The Independent National Electoral Commission has come under fire on social media after it declared the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu winner of the 2023 presidential election.
The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu declared Tinubu winner at exactly 4:10 a.m on Wednesday in Abuja.
Tinubu polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar who scored 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of Labour party who polled 6,101,533 votes.
Leaders of opposition parties have been calling for the cancellation of the presidential election that took place on Saturday February 25th.
On Tuesday, The two main opposition parties, the PDP and the Labour Party held a joint news conference declaring that the election cannot be legal if it did not follow due process according to the electoral act.
Subsequently, a Chieftain of the APC, Femi Fani Kayode, has described the call for the cancellation of the election by opposition leaders as contrived and a conspiracy, because they knew that would lose the election.
The media adviser of the APC presidential campaign council Dele Alake attacked Arise TV Journalist, ‘Amaka Udeh’, during a press briefing organized by the all progressives congress after she asked members of the APC to tone down their rhetoric because they were on live television.
Tinubu in his victory speech, while thanking his wife Senator Oluremi for standing by him, told senators not to expect her in the senate when he becomes NIgeria’s president in May.
