DC Studios might not be at San Diego Comic-Con, but that’s not stopping James Gunn from dropping some bombshells: the writer-director and co-head of Warner Bros’ plans for the DC media universe has beamed into Comic-Con with our first look at the new DCU era in Creature Commandos.

Revealed as part of a surprise appearance during Jim Lee’s panel at Comic-Con, Gunn unveiled our first proper look at the first big DCU project in action: the animated series Creature Commandos.

The seven-episode series sees Rick Flag (Senior this time, not his son, played by Frank Grillo, who will also play him in live action for Peacemaker season 2) and Amanda Waller (returning DC evergreen at this point, Viola Davis) team up to recruit a tag team of renegade weirdos: but this time, they can’t use Taskforce X. So… enter Taskforce M. For Monster: a team of incarcerated prisoners at Belle Reve that Waller keeps prepared for missions so brutal it’s not even worth sending humans on.

Including the voice talents of Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, the series will also star Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, and Anya Chalotra as Circe.  Creature Commandos is set to begin streaming on Max this December, kicking off the new era of the DCU as we know it.
