It’s been a long road, but after years of rumors and speculation, Marvel is getting back to the past to give us the Fantastic Four in all their glory. But to do so, their movie’s name is getting a bit of a tweak.

Tonight during the blockbuster Marvel panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios’ head honcho Kevin Feige confirmed that The Fantastic Four is now The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and that the film officially begins production next week, on July 30.

Directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman, the movie is set in the 1960s and follows the creation of the titular superhero team after Reed Richards (The Last of Us and The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal), his wife Sue Storm (The Crown‘s Vanessa Kirby), and her brother Johnny (Stranger Things‘ Joseph Quinn), alongside their best friend Ben Grimm (Andor and The Bear‘s Ebon Moss-Bachrach) are exposed to cosmic radiation during a mission to space.

Transformed and granted superpowers, together the quartet form the Fantastic Four as Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the ever-loving, blue-eyed Thing. Together, they’ll face off against the greatest threat the world has yet to face: Galactus the planet-eater, played by acting powerhouse Ralph Ineson.

The Fantastic Four also stars Julia Garner as the Shalla-Bal version of Galactus’ herald, Silver Surfer, and is set to hit theaters July 25, 2025. Stay tuned for even more news right out of Hall H from Marvel’s ongoing panel!
