The Cure’s Robert Smith is set to remix Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Noel Gallagher returned at the end of 2022 with a dashing new solo single, injecting ‘Pretty Boy’ with clipped new wave guitars. The slight gothic feel didn’t go unnoticed, with some fans comparing it to those early singles from The Cure.
Noel Gallagher’s friend and collaborator Paul Weller took umbrage with the comparisons, however, and went on a memorable rant about his distaste for The Cure, and Robert Smith in particular.
Robert Smith seems to have laughed it all off, however, with Noel Gallagher now teasing a special remix from The Cure frontman. Chatting to Huw Stephens on BBC Radio Wales, he said Robert Smith is “a bit of a dude…”
“‘Pretty Boy’ as it was unfolding became reminiscent of the golden age of The Cure,” he said. “And it was just one of those crazy ideas that one tends to have in the middle of the night, thinking, ‘I wonder if Robert Smith [would] get involved. I wonder if I can get hold of him’.”
He continued: “I asked if he’d get involved and sent him the track and he loved it. He did the remix. And I loved it. I’d never met him before. I’d never conversed with him. But I was always a fan of The Cure and the remix sounds exactly like the Cure. Yeah, it turns out he is a bit of a dude!’”
Can’t wait to hear it!
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will release new album ‘Council Skies’ on June 2nd.
