The production officially opens April 22
Stranger Things: The First Shadow is heading to Broadway. The production, which serves as a prequel to Netflix’s Stranger Things, heads to Marquis Theater for preview performances March 28, and will hold official performances beginning April 22.
The production premiered in London’s West End in December 2023 and won Olivier Awards in the Best Entertainment and Best Set Design categories. (The London show is ongoing and tickets are on sale through Feb. 16.)
The Broadway production is based on the original story by Stranger Things showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry, and writer Jack Thorne (Enola Holmes 2). It begins before the world turned upside down. A synopsis reads, “Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy … and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”
Although casting notices went out earlier this year, the stars have yet to be announced.

Details are scarce surrounding the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The popular Netflix series faced delays due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes last year, and has yet to announce a premiere date, although Linda Hamilton is confirmed to join the cast. The cast also recently shared a behind-the-scenes clip as they film its final season.
Tickets for Stranger Things: The First Shadow go on sale to the general public Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 11:00 a.m. E.T., though fans can sign up for presale access beginning on Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. ET.
