The UFC’s hardest hitter Alex Pereira appeared to lose his crown to a social media star during a fan convention on Friday.
Pereira famously landed a higher score than former heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou on the UFC Performance Institute’s PowerKube, which gauges punch velocity. And during an appearance at Fanatics Fest on Friday, he tested his power on a standard punch machine.
But just moments later, streaming sensation iShowSpeed took on the same challenge, and appeared to land an even higher score. Fans have since taken to social media to express their shock at ‘Speed’ and yet another athletic endeavor.
Streamer iShowSpeed lands higher punch machine score than Alex Pereira
During the Fanatics Fest, fighters and attendees were given the chance to test their power on a standard punch machine. UFC light-heavyweight and former middleweight champion Alex Pereira gave it a try, and impressed fans as he scored 907.
However, what truly seemed remarkable was the athletic abilities of streamer iShowSpeed, who after submitting Adin Ross in a light grappling match, outscored Pereira. The streamer is reportedly in the region of 5’8″ and bares a skinny physique, with which he has outrun many professional athletes.
But he managed to hit the machine in just the right spot and score 921, which put him ahead of Pereira on the leaderboard. He celebrated with fans, before demanding that he be given a debut in the UFC, despite having next to no fight experience.
Dana White warns iShowSpeed against Alex Pereira callout
Speed quickly asked UFC boss Dana White to set him up for a fight, to which the promoter asked if he would be interested in facing Adin Ross. However, he instead demanded that he be set up with Pereira, despite the massive size difference.
“You said that you’re going to give me the fight, bro,” Speed told White, before turning down Ross and insisting that he be given a debut against Pereira. The UFC promoter replied: “That’s a bad idea, have you seen him? He’s here, I think when you see him you’ll change your mind.”
Speed appeared unfazed, declaring “I’m ready for my debut, bro”. His previous experience includes some light boxing sparring and an infamous live-streamed session with YouTube boxer KSI who brutalised him in a charity spar.
Alex Pereira landed highest score in UFC PI PowerKube history
It likely would be a bad idea for Speed to even goad Alex Pereira, given the Brazilian’s extensive fighting background and mythical power. He has knocked out the likes of Israel Adesanya, Jamahal Hill and Sean Strickland on his run to two-weight champion status among other major names.
And in April of this year, despite weighing over 60lb less for his fights than Francis Ngannou, he managed to score an even bigger punch on the Performance Institute’s PowerKube. In 2018 the Cameroonian scored a whopping 129,161 units.
But Pereira went considerably further, scoring an unbelievable 191,796 that left his team of coaches stunned. He has since gone on to land two massive knockouts, and it would be wise for iShowSpeed or any other influencer to steer clear of his power.
