Slaves have confirmed they are changing their name – to Soft Play.

The Kentish punk duo released their debut album in 2015, gate-crashing the Top 10 in the process. Two further LPs followed, before the band seemed to go on a break.

Solo endeavours followed, but it seems Slaves are back – albeit with a different moniker.

The group’s name has been a source of controversy since their inception, and they have now confirmed that a chance is due. Slaves have evolved into Soft Play, and posted a full statement online.

“When we called our band Slaves, it was intended solely as a reference to the grind of day to day life,” they write, before promising that “the time has now come to pick up where we left off…”
