UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley believes that Ryan Garcia’s ongoing issues are drug-related.
‘Sugar’ is currently slated to return to the octagon this Saturday night in Las Vegas. Back for the first time since a knockout win over Aljamain Sterling last August, Sean O’Malley will look to defeat Marlon Vera. The bout comes four years after their first outing, where ‘Chito’ won by first-round stoppage due to injury.
Sean O’Malley’s return also comes just one month, before Ryan Garcia’s next bout. ‘KingRy’ is currently slated to face Devin Haney on April 20th, in the biggest fight of his career. With a win, the boxer planned to move to the UFC, to fight O’Malley. However, it’s hard to see Garcia making it to the ring at this current rate. Over the last few weeks, the boxer has had incredibly erratic behavior.
While fans could write off Ryan Garcia divorcing his wife out of nowhere, or allegedly being drunk at the presser for his fight with ‘The Dream’, things have taken a turn for the worse. Earlier this week, the boxer stated that unknown individuals had attempted to sexually assault him, as well as put him in jail. Garcia also claimed that he was taken to Bohemian Grove, a restricted gentleman’s club known for its wealthy members.
Given all that, fans are understandably concerned for the boxer. It’s safe to say that Sean O’Malley is a little worried about him as well. At UFC 299 media day earlier today, ‘Sugar’ was asked about Ryan Garcia’s recent comments. There, O’Malley stated that the boxer was likely on drugs and that he felt bad for him.

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley reacts to Ryan Garcia’s comments
“Cocaine’s a hell of a drug.” Sean O’Malley stated at UFC 299 media day earlier today, when asked about Ryan Garcia’s recent online posts. “I think he’s on drugs and he’s acting a fool. Yeah, I feel bad for him more than anything you know? Cocaine’s a hell of a drug, yeah that [fight between us] will never happen.”
He continued, “If it does, I’m here for it. [But] it won’t be my fault that the fight doesn’t happen so. Realistically, that [fight] will never happen.”
As of now, Ryan Garcia remains in his fight with Devin Haney, scheduled for April 20th in New York. However, his brother Sean, as well as his ex-wife, have publically called for prayers for the young star. His promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, hasn’t yet commented on the situation.
What do you make of these comments? Do you think Sean O’Malley vs. Ryan Garcia will ever happen?
