New music
It’s a radical re-working driven by a quiet affection for the core text…

Saint Leonard has covered Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’.
The songwriter has many strings to his bow, ranging from magick pursuits through to live performances. Indeed, Saint Leonard recently added another such string – his novel A Muse will be published later this year.
Continually creative, the English artist recently went back into the studio, and found himself drawn to a recent Taylor Swift release. Lyrics from ‘Anti-Hero’ would swirl around in his mind, spilling out in different ways.
So, with the tapes rolling, he decided to finesse a cover, radically re-working the song in his own guise. A quiet affection towards the original remains, but Saint Leonard is able to place it in a new context, shrouded in a lingering darkness.
Indeed, there’s a certain witchiness to the lyrics, which Saint Leonard is able to tease out into the open: “When my depression works the graveyard shift / All of the people I’ve ghosted stand there in the room…”
There’s been a few takes on Taylor Swift’s work over the years, but this is definitely one of the most original. Catch Saint Leonard in Austin, Texas next week for SXSW – he plays Valhalla on March 15th.
Tune in now.
