Runkus and Toddla T have shared the full video for ‘Garrison’.

Jamaican star Runkus knows how to flex, with his talents earning a pair of Grammy nominations. Linking with UK producer Toddla T – himself a deep fan of dancehall – the duo crafted a full album project, with ‘OUT:SIDE’ gaining plaudits on its release.

A record that made a deep impact, album cut ‘Garrison’ has just been given the video treatment. Stylistically, the production moves between dancehall and old school hip-hop, all viewed through the lens of a Sheffield club maverick. Toddla T explains…

“I thought Runkus’ take on Garrison was as genius as anything he puts his mind to. On a production tip, it was super fun to go in on a boom bap vibe, taking the skeleton of what Runkus had already created and ramping it up Steel City style. As for the video, pass Fernando the Oscar!”

Runkus steers the vocal, riding a sample from the original Xterminator  Records catalogue. He comments:

“Living in a country like Jamaica and being exposed to different sides of life, I learnt quickly from a young age that the whole world is a Garrison – for we all share collective struggles. So in this song, I sang a ballad-styled love song to the Garrison whilst warning the youths of the dangers and showing them Duality. A place we love and at the same time, most fear.”

The ‘luxe video matches some stunning landscapes to a real sense of grit – tune in now.
