Listen to new single ‘Lucky’…

22 · 05 · 2024

Raveena has today announced the release of a new album, ‘Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain’, due June 14th via Empire.

The Massachusetts singer-songwriter continues the lilting RnB reverie established on era-signifier, ‘Pluto‘, with follow-up ‘Lucky’, which exudes a love for deep-rooted divination. With the new single comes Raveena’s album reveal, which explores themes of new love, maturity, comfort, and domesticity, reflecting the peace of mind she currently inhabits.

Of the allegory behind the ‘butterfly’ and how it charts the next stage in her creative evolution, Raveena says: “Butterflies are so delicate that they have to hide in leaves and flowers until the rain passes so that their wings don’t get crushed in the rain. I felt like that was kind of a metaphor for where I was in my life. I needed to go back to comfort—to deep rest—and stop weathering storms.”

On the album, which arrives two years after the acclaimed ‘Asha’s Awakening‘, Raveena combines turn-of-the-millennia pop/RnB tropes with traditional Indian instruments, whilst recalling the timeless sounds and storytelling detail of artists like Fleetwood Mac, Brandy, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, and Marvin Gaye.

Watch the video for ‘Lucky’ below, directed Isha Dipika Walia which features the singer falling in love with a life-size caterpillar.
