Mount Kimbie’s Silver Baubles Break Loose, Bring Oxford Street To A Standstill

Mount Kimbie’s album release stunt went wrong yesterday (November 1st) sending enormous silver baubles rolling down Central London.

The electronic pairing are back, with new album ‘MK 3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning’ set to land on November 4th via Warp Records. Crafted between London and Los Angeles, it’s an ambitious, heavyweight return, one that required something special to launch it.

Mount Kimbie linked with artist Tom Shannon for the piece Four World Set, containing four enormous silver baubles arranged in a curious fashion. Launched in Central London, they were due to remain in St. Giles Square for a week before being dismantled.

Sadly, Storm Claudio had other ideas – high winds ripped the silver baubles from their moorings, sending them bouncing down Oxford Street.

Motorists paused to observe the surreal scene, before getting out of their cars to burst them. In a statement, Mount Kimbie’s Kai Campos said he was “heartbroken” at the scenes.

He writes: “Seeing it completed on Sunday night was one of the most exciting things I’ve been involved with. The fact that it was so out in the open and public was one of the best parts of the work and when seeing the joy and intrigue it brought to everyone who walked through the square. It felt like it had a life of it’s own and one that was just getting started. I’m absolutely gutted that more people won’t get to see it this week.”
