Mick Jenkins will release new album ‘The Patience’ on August 18th.
The Chicago rapper shared his 2021 album ‘Elephant In The Room’ to universal acclaim, with Clash reviewer Niall Smith writing: “Mick has almost been a master at nuance and layered subtext. The record marries together the foundations of a vintage soul record with the kind of harrowing, brutal honesty only found on a lyrically adept alt hip-hop album.”
New album ‘The Patience’ is out later this summer, landing on August 18th. New single ‘Smoke Break-Dance’ is an urgent yet playful return, with Mick Jenkins joined by JID.
Stoic provides production, and it leads into a body of work that aims to broaden the rapper’s approach still further.
Mick Jenkins comments…
As best I can be, I am a person who does everything within his power to change his situation. I think with some level of consistency, that behaviour inevitably leads you to a point where you have to wait. A point where the things that need to happen to move you forward are no longer in your control.
I see this as a period of time in one’s journey, no matter the length, where unseen things must take place; the muscles must tear and repair, the understanding of a concept coming to you in a moment completely devoid of artistic intention. It’s through these moments where I’ve found myself being the most frustrated with patience – and this body of work sounds like that frustration.
Tune in now.
