MGM+ has landed the rights to two-part doc In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon from Alex Gibney.

Gibney directed the two-parter, which is described as “the definitive musical biography of Paul Simon, one of the greatest songwriters (and performers) in the history of rock ‘n roll.”

The doc includes never-before-seen footage of Simon’s career, from Simon & Garfunkel to Graceland, and footage of Simon’s concerts, as well as interviews with friends and collaborators including doc jazz titan Wynton Marsalis, SNL‘s Lorne Michaels, and Simon’s wife, singer Edie Brickell. It also tracks the production of Simon’s latest album Seven Psalms.

The two parts of In Restless Dreams will premiere on the service on March 17 and March 24, respectively.

The doc premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter‘s festival review reads: “Few people have had as central a role in American pop music and culture as Simon. Gibney, best-known for exposes including The Inventorabout Elizabeth Holmes’ tech-company fraud, and Going Clearon Scientology, turns out to be the ideal director to explore Simon’s long, varied run.”

Jigsaw, Closer Media, and Anonymous Content are behind the docuseries, with Gibney, David Rahtz, Erin Edeiken and Svetlana Zill producing.

The deal was negotiated by UTA Independent Film Group and AC Independent on behalf of filmmakers.
