A surging piece of rock music…

29 · 08 · 2024

Manic Street Preachers have shared surprise single ‘Decline & Fall’.

The Welsh band spent summer on the road with Suede, the two bands playing a co-headlining run across the country. CLASH caught Manic Street Preachers at Alexandra Palace noting:

The set, too, trods the line between fan service and the unexpected. Noting complaints from fans about the lack of material from ‘The Holy Bible’ the Welsh band dish out a lovelorn ‘This Is Yesterday’, while songs like ‘Orwellian’ underline their continued creative vitality.

Out now, surprise single ‘Decline & Fall’ offers something fresh for fans – it’s their first dose of new music since ‘The Ultra Vivid Lament’, which reached No 1 in the Official UK Album Charts in September 2021.

Retaining some of the power of that record, you can hear traces of The Skids or even James Dean Bradfield’s beloved Simple Minds in there, alongside the surging pop energy of the Cardigans, say.

Taking their live prowess into the studio environment, sessions took place at the band’s Door To The River studio in Newport and Rockfield Studios, Monmouth. ‘Decline & Fall’ was produced by regular collaborators Dave Eringa and Loz Williams and mixed by Caesar Edmunds (Beach House/Suede/Wet Leg).

Tune in now.
