50 years on from its inception, the global impact of hip-hop is clear. Kids from Alaska to Brazil, from Hong Kong to Algeria have been touched by the art-form, and the culture that propelled it. Wu-Tang Clan and Nas were there at the beginning, watching the emergence of hip-hop with childish eyes before picking up the microphone themselves.
N.Y. State Of Mind brings together these two iconic names for a global tour, epitomising the longevity of their creations, and the currently vitality of both parties. Nas has completed his ‘King’s Disease’ trilogy, re-asserting his worth as the pre-eminent wordsmith of his generation. Wu-Tang Clan have been through the wars, but the bond between them runs deep – there is no finer force in American music.
Moving across Europe, Wu-Tang Clan and Nas have shown night after night why both they and the art-form they work without remain so vital, and so relevant. Touching down in Ireland, N.Y. State Of Mind lit up Dublin’s 3Arena last weekend – photographer Sarah Ellis was on hand to capture a historic evening.
