Levi’s is the latest fashion brand to collaborate with the Japanese animation house.
Levi’s has announced a collaboration with Studio Ghibli to honour one of the Japanese animation studio’s most famous and beloved films, Princess Mononoke. The denim brand is the latest fashion label to collaborate with Studio Ghibli, following in the footsteps of Loewe, Porter and Uniqlo.
This collaboration is based in the breathtaking, hand-painted backgrounds of Hayao Miyazaki’s enchanting 1997 film, and features depictions of dense shrubbery and vast forestry on denim pieces including a trucker jacket, and 501 jeans and shorts. Set in Levi’s signature deep navy, the collaboration also celebrates the forest spirits of Princess Mononoke, with a Kodama kimono jacket and overalls. Prince Ashitaka and Princess Mononoke also feature throughout the collection on t-shirts, hoodies, tote bags and other accessories.
“Over 25 years after its release, Princess Mononoke continues to resonate deeply with audiences across the globe as an animated icon,” said Karyn Hillman, Chief Product Officer at Levi Strauss & Co. “It was a joy to collaborate with Studio Ghibli and create such a beautiful collection that pays tribute to this compelling, artistic masterpiece.”
