Leifur James has laid out plans for his third album ‘Magic Seeds’.

The record was constructed in London, with Leifur acting as the central creative figure. Bringing his music to life, he sought out some core contributors – drummer Leo Taylor (Floating Points Ensemble), violinist Raven Bush (Speakers Corner Quartet) and producer/engineer Oli Bayston.

Out on November 8th via Night Time Stories, new single ‘Smoke In The Air’ illuminates his intention – vaporised soul, after-hours electronics, and a hint of jazz in there, too.

Leifur comments…

My response to the song really came out of conversations with James about what the core of the song was about for him. From there I really wanted to create something that would express a little of the way we interact as individuals, how we are both our own isolated islands of experience but how we also fold in and mirror the people around us. How we guard ourselves and how we open ourselves up. This feels particularly salient when we’re forming new relationships, where we have a more acute sense of who we are, who we’d like to be and are also forming strong feelings and opinions about the other person.

So much of the way we are and the way we see others is impacted and shaped by the context and environments we’re in and it all becomes a kind of strange soup which can be all-consuming. Throughout working on this I kept thinking about one of the first assignments I did during my (very short) time at university which was to express the feeling you have when you hug someone you barely know.

Tune in now.
