Le Motel and spoken word artist Magugu partner on new EP ‘Kindness Weakness’.
The four-tracker is out now on Le Motel’s own Maloca imprint, and it builds on a pairing first heard on 2021’s emphatic low-end epic ‘Shaolin’. Across the sonic triptych the studio technician lays down an exploration through club tropes, utilising facets of system culture as pivots for his own innovations.
For his part, Magugu’s spoken word interventions are stellar. A pidgin rap experimentalist, he’s able to blend the natural rhythms of pidgin English born from his Nigerian heritage with an ear for the audio constructions being prepared in front of him.
First cut ‘On Topper’ is a heavyweight bass excursion whose crushed breaks recall jungle, while ‘Blend’ and the title track infuse blasts of light amid the sonic murk.
Closer ‘Let Me Down’ touches on the fringes of UKG, with those keyboard daubs illuminating the canvas in renewed colour. A fantastic creative union, ‘Kindness Weakness’ comes highly recommended.
Tune in now.
