Jorja Smith returns with excellent new single ‘High’.

The UK songwriter’s wonderful 2023 album ‘falling or flying’ was soulful musicality at its most effective, building on the past while pointing to the future. Since then, Jorja has released a number of one-off drops, tackling different sonic tropes, styles, and genres.

‘High’ finds the singer returning to club vibes – a space where she is often at her most effective. Jorja remains a technically stunning vocalist, but there’s something about hearing her over electronics that just makes inherent sense.

As a piece of songwriting, ‘High’ deals with the struggle to locate inner strength, and the requirement of building your inner champion. It’s also marked by brutal honesty – for all her successes, Jorja has had moments of difficulty, too. She sings: “I’ve had my lows, You weren’t always there for me, But time has shown, And I can love myself again…”
