Current undisputed UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has commented on Tom Aspinall for the first time since his interim title defense against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 this past July.
On July 27 at UFC 304 in Manchester, Tom Aspinall joined rare company when he became only the third interim champion in UFC history to defend his interim belt and that is because the UFC refuses to make a fight between him and undisputed champion, Jon Jones.
For months fans have been calling for the promotion to do away with their plans to have ‘Bones’ fight against Stipe Miocic – who hasn’t won a fight since 2020 – and instead make the unification fight.
UFC CEO Dana White recently revealed that the winner of the impending fight between Jones and Miocic will fight Aspinall next, however, Miocic has admitted it is his final fight and Jones has recently hinted at the same.

Initially, Jones was biting at fans who were claiming he is ducking Aspinall in favor of an easier fight, however since then, the former light heavyweight champion has been less active on social media and hasn’t been engaging much with fans.
Despite that, Jones has commented on Aspinall for the first time since his UFC 304 win against Curtis Blaydes, a fight that Jones was confident ‘Razor’ Blaydes would win.
With Aspinall now hosting a UFC show on TNT, the British broadcasters of the promotion, he previewed this past Saturday’s UFC 305 event with special guest, Ugo Monye.
Monye is a former rugby player who played internationally for England, and during the show, Aspinall was going through some wrestling drills with the rugby star.
During one exchange, Monye seemed to trip Aspinall successfully, and the moment was noticed by many UFC fans online who began questioning whether he would struggle against Jones.
“Looks like Tom (is) displaying that amazing UK wrestling,” Jones sarcastically commented.
“My focus is on Stipe, he actually wrestled division one. Best heavyweight of all time as of right now. Maybe Tom will go on and beat Stipe’s record one day, right now I’m focussing on goat things,” the heavyweight champion continued.

Jones continues to dismiss ‘begging’ calls for a unification bout
Although the UFC is still yet to announce when Jones’ title defense against Miocic will take place, Aspinall revealed earlier this week that he will, in fact, be the backup for the fight and has confirmed it with the UFC.
“I’ve heard nothing (about the fight being announced), they want me to be a backup fighter for it but… There’s no way on earth that (Jones) is gonna fight me, not a chance, I will retire Jon Jones without even fighting him,” Aspinall said on the BYM Podcast.
It seems that for now, Aspinall is correct, as Jones continues to dismiss ‘begging’ calls for a unification fight, and admits that he’s not fighting any ‘randoms’.
“Haha man, you guys have been really begging me lately. Is the heavyweight division really that boring without me? The beautiful thing about my position is, I’m not defined by one fight. Most of you grew up watching me win,” Jones stated.
“I had already voiced that I wasn’t interested in any more randoms. Now magically I’m ducking a fight that’s never been negotiated or discussed at any table that matters. Lol I’m sticking to my plans, Jon Jones jumps for no one,” he continued.
