Twitter was up in arms after watching a less-than-ideal performance of the “Star-Spangled Banner” by Ingrid Andress. On Monday, the Grammy-nominated country singer sang the national anthem during the 2024 Home Run Dery at Arlington’s Globe Life Field, receiving criticism for her rendition online.

Andress — an experienced performer who has opened for major artists such as Stevie Nicks and Keith Urban in the past — was captured missing several notes during her performance of the national anthem. Online, fans drew comparisons to Fergie’s flub performance of the song during the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.

“Uhhh… that anthem was interesting. Sung by Ingrid Andress,” read one viral post of her rendition.

“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst national anthem renditions ever,” read another.

The struggling performance comes just a few hours after Andress announced that she’ll release a new single titled “Colorado 9” on July 24, nearly a year after dropping her second album, Good Person, last August. She’s set to play in Nashville on Wednesday and in Denver on July 24.

Andress is a prolific songwriter, penning tracks including LANY’s “I Didn’t Lie,” Charli XCX’s “Boys,” and Fletcher’s “I Think I’m Growing,” and has become one of the most promising female performers in country music. Her first album, Lady Like, earned her three Grammy nominations in 2021, including for Best New Artist and Best Country Song for “More Hearts Than Mine.” She also earned a nod for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Wishful Drinking” with Sam Hunt in 2023.

“I feel like I am a lot more comfortable being authentic and vulnerable with people. I think I’ve found there’s power in being honest and vulnerable,” she told Rolling Stone last year as she dropped Good Person. “I feel like being in love is making me realize that there’s like a lot of power in feminine energy.”
