UFC welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry wants to clear a few things up.
‘The Future’ is currently slated to return at UFC 298 tomorrow night against Geoff Neal. The bout is a re-booking, as the two were set to fight last August. However, ‘Handz of Steel’ was forced to withdraw due to injury, and Ian Machado Garry wound up defeating short-notice replacement Neil Magny.
Ian Machado Garry has become one of the UFC’s most discussed fighters in the last year or so. However, it hasn’t always been for the right reasons. Names such as Sean Strickland and others have slammed the Irishman consistently. However, they’ve also aimed at his wife, Layla Machado Garry.
The two were married in February 2022, and their relationship has been highly publicized. ‘Tarzan’ and others have slammed Ian Machado Garry and his wife, for a variety of reasons. The age gap between the two has been referenced. As has Garry’s decision to hire his wife’s ex-husband as his nutritionist, and also take her last name as his own.
In a recent interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Ian Machado Garry decided to clear a few things up. There, he slammed comments from Sean Strickland and others regarding his wife. In the interview, Garry also explained that he hired his wife’s ex-husband as a nutritionist, so the man could still be in their son’s life. Beyond that, his weight cuts have also gotten easier.
UFC welterweight Ian Machado Garry addresses comments made about his marriage
“I want to be a good human, I want to be a good man, and I never want to be a wedge between a father and a son.” Ian Machado Garry stated in the interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri. “I know, that if someone was to be the wedge between me and my son, I would be livid, I would be livid and I would hate that person and I don’t want that on my conscience. So, the truth is, my wife doesn’t have a boyfriend. My wife has an ex-husband, and they have a past, I know that. I’m aware of that.”
He continued, “Everyone has a f*cking past in their life, everyone does. I don’t want to be a wedge between my wife, and her ex-husband, and their kid and have them go through battles and arguments because I don’t want them around. No, I’m a bigger man than that. I understand there’s a child in all of this, and he deserves to be prioritized.”
