Hyphenation is when Microsoft Word sometimes splits words across two lines, placing a hyphen at the end of one line to show that the word continues on the next line. Some people like this feature, others don’t. Certainly hyphenation can make your document’s right hand edge look much less ragged, but then too many hyphenated words can make it harder to read the text.
