The big guest stars of Deadpool & Wolverine got revealed basically the night the movie hit theaters, and none were quite as surprising as Gambit. Seeing Channing Tatum get to live out his very, very long dreams of playing ol’ Remy LeBeau was honestly kind of endearing (and hilarious, given that accent), to say nothing of how well he carried himself during the action. And if Tatum had his way, this won’t be the last we see of ol’ Remy.

During the red carpet premiere for Zoe Kraviz’s Blink Twice, Tatum told Variety he “sure hoped” for another crack at playing the character, either in another guest part or more preferably, a solo movie. He’s already said as such to Marvel, stressing that he’s “ it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God. Write it into existence, friend.”

It’s no secret the character means a lot to him; back when Fox was trying to get a Gambit movie made, he held onto the role despite said film’s many setbacks and eventual cancellation. After Deadpool & Wolverine’s release, he poured his heart out about being grateful to fulfill his dream. “I thought I had lost Gambit forever,” wrote Tatum on August 2. “But fought for me and Gambit. All things happen for a reason. I’m so grateful to be in this movie.”

Given Marvel’s recent moves toward its multiverse endgame—and y’know, the entire existence of Deadpool & Wolverine—it’s likely we’ll see Tatum shuffle it up as Gambit again during the upcoming doomsday crisis. But a full-on movie may be a little trickier…unless Marvel Studios decides to spin some of the X-Men out into their own solo stories. I guess if Ant-Man can get a movie, so too can Gambit. Just, maybe give him the eyes next time? And a better cowl?

Think Tatum should get his Gambit movie, or should we remember it as a one-and-done? Let us know in the comments below.
