Guvna B shares his thoughtful new single ‘Traffic’.

The London artist has really been through it. A racist attack left him with sight difficulties for months, and the lacklustre response from the Met Police compounded his feelings of trauma.

Slowly recovering, he put his faith in music, constructing the song ‘Bridgeland Road’ to detail his experiences. An extraordinary piece of music, the full video is out now and features modern British icon Michaela Coel.

New song ‘Traffic’ finds Guvna B learning to look to the future. Touching on his own childhood, and interactions with an inspirational teacher, he wonders what tomorrow will hold for his own children.

A patient, poignant piece of music, ‘Traffic’ is born out of hard-won wisdom – as he puts it, “we did good, but you’ll do better…”

He explains:

I wrote ‘Traffic’ after thinking about the kind of world my three-year-old son and newborn daughter are going to grow up in. As a young father, you want to set your kids up to win and education is a big part of that. As important as Pythagoras theory is, it would be a shame they grew up and weren’t financially literate for example. The cost of living crisis has shown how important it is to make sure people are prepared with the skills they need to navigate such difficult times.

The video for ‘Traffic’ was pieced together by Emily Downe and Martha Halliday, and it depicts Guvna B – together with his son – driving toward London’s instantly recognisable Blackwall Tunnel.

Guvna B adds:

“Initially I wanted to shut down the Blackwall Tunnel and shoot a cool video there but the budget for that kind of operation isn’t quite there! Next best thing was an animated video. The song is about the importance of education and leadership and I think Emily Downe and Martha Halliday did a great job on conveying this through the illustrations and animation.”

Tune in now.
