CLASH and Pioneer DJ have partnered up to document the rise of our favourite homegrown DJs through a series of curated shorts and mixes titled, ‘For The Love Of It’. Previously we spotlighted London’s DJ Cueball, now we invite world-renowned DJ, SYREETA, to the studio to showcase her digital dexterity on the CDJ-3000’s, V10 mixer, and HDJ-X7 headphones.

SYREETA’s rise has been gradual but deliberate. The London-based DJ and producer came up finessing her craft on the East London circuit, shadowing and playing alongside the likes of Point G, Alex Arnout and Archie Hamilton, soon after she’d share bills with Maya Jane Coles, Octa Octa and Berghain’s Freddy K. SYREETA has emerged as an in-demand spinner on the club and festival circuit with breathless, shape-shifting sets that evoke her ‘high-tech house’ beginnings, but also make detours into different eras and styles: in one fluid set expect feel-good melodic grooves, heavy syncopation and a whole lot of post-punk energy.

SYREETA’s residency for intersectional label and club night HE.SHE.THEY mirrors her ethos as a DJ where the message of openness and inclusion is projected to club goers, a pivot away from the heteronormative elitism and gatekeeping that has defined so much of the electronic music scene up to now.

In conversation, SYREETA extols the virtues of DJing: sharing how the art form allowed her most authentic self to be expressed, her experience as a black queer DJ navigating the industry, and the piece of advice that altered her outlook and set her on the path she’s on now.

SYREETA has provided guest mixes for the likes of Danny Howard and Sarah Story for BBC Radio 1 and Beatport, and that curatorial know-how comes through in this scintillating exclusive mix recorded at the Clash studio.
