Fontaines D.C. have shared their brand new single titled ‘Here’s The Thing’.

Unveiling yet another facet to the Irish trailblazers’ fourth studio album ‘ROMANCE’, the track is a piercing example of the boys at their strongest. Gritty, tainted and experimental, the outfit execute an anthemic hook over slick, distorted acoustics, bouncing between their fresh, punkish energies.

Made up of vocalist Grian Chatten, bass player Conor Deegan, drummer Tom Coll and guitarists Carlos O’Connell and Conor Curley, Fontaines D.C. are running full-steam ahead. Having recently announced their biggest headline show in Finsbury Park, the band will set off on a Europe and North America tour across the rest of the year, savouring their new material amongst sold-out crowds. Set to land on August 23rd, ‘ROMANCE’ promises one of the group’s most ambitious releases to date, making their XL debut with comeback single ‘Starburster’.

In a review, Clash described the record as ‘an apt soundtrack to life in England’s capital; a multitude of genres and sounds all fighting for superiority amidst the chaos.’

Arriving alongside a Luna Carmoon-directed music video, ‘Here’s The Thing’ situates listeners against the harsh backdrop of adolescence. Set in a traditional Irish Dancing competition, Carmoon creates a moody, cinematic masterpiece that echoes the influence of 90s horror flicks.

Speaking on the track, Chatten expands: “It’s an anxious tune that twists and turns in what it
wants, back and forth between pain and numbness.”

Tune in now.

Fontaines D.C. will release new album ‘Romance’ on August 23rd.
