Flying Lotus, real name Steven Ellison, has shared a new track, ‘Garmonbozia’, via Warp Records.
The Los Angeles artist’s first solo release since 2022, ‘Garmonbozia’ integrates Ellison’s own warped vocals over a synthesized, sci-fi-tinged escapade. Named after the fictional creamed corn food in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, ‘Garmonbozia‘ is what the spirits of the Black Lodge eat – a corporeal manifestation of sorrow and pain, or “negative energy”.
Last year, Ellison collaborated with New York rapper Smoke DZA on the space-dwelling release, ‘Flying Objects‘. Beyond music Flying Lotus is tapping into other creative mediums: he co-wrote, directed and scored a segment for the horror anthology V/H/S 99, and completed filming the sci-fi horror film Ash, starring Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Eiza González (3 Body Problem), in which he served as both director and composer.
Ellison also composed the score for acclaimed Netflix anime series Yasuke, and created the theme tune for Apple’s Magic Johnson documentary They Call Me Magic.
Catch Flying Lotus at All Points East Festival in London tomorrow, and at the OFF DAYS festival series on August 20th and 21st in Hamburg and Berlin.
