Dub reggae crew Easy Star All-Stars tackle a David Bowie classic for their new single.

The release is part of the group’s incoming project, a special dub reggae take on a rock classic. Yep, they’ve decided to cover the iconic 1972 release ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’ in full, transforming it into something entirely new, something they’ve named ‘Ziggy Stardub’.

It’s an apt pick – Bowie was deeply in love with Black music, and partial to system culture, too; he was even spotted at drum ‘n’ bass hangout the Blue Note back in the 90s.

For this single the dub reggae collective tackle ‘Starman’ re-casting it in their own light. A skanking feast, Easy Star All-Stars have a soulful edge, while those echo chamber excursions recall the work of Augustus Pablo.

Maxi Priest is on hand to assist in this righteous vibrations, a neat salute to Bowie that also firmly places its own stamp on the song.

Tune in now.
