Snoop Dogg and DJ Premier have reunited for a new single, “Can U Dig That?”
The track is a potent, laid-back ode to all things West Coast, centered around a classic Preemo scratch sample — “Welcome to California… life is a bitch out here.” Over a beat that blends classic boom-bap with hazy, droning synths and sultry keys reminiscent of the G-funk heyday, Snoop delivers a characteristically cool verse that name-checks a bunch of his fellow Golden State hip-hop pioneers.
“Can U Dig That?” was released via DJ Premier’s new independent label, TTT (To the Top). In a statement, the DJ/producer said he reached out to Snoop about collaborating when he was prepping what he thought might be a new album for the label.
“Snoop recorded a demo of the song, and it went into my vaults unfinished” DJ Premier recalled. “Fast forward, our initial plan to an album changed, and we decided to just release singles. Snoop updated his lyrics and now its ready for our audience to ride out to — Can U Dig That?”

DJ Premier and Snoop Dogg have previously worked together on numerous occasions. Premier produced a pair of tracks on Snoop’s 2002 album, Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss, while a year later, Snoop guested on Gang Starr’s “In This Life…” off 2003’s The Ownerz. More recently, the two came together with Big K.R.I.T. and Russ on the latter’s song “Free” off his 2021 album, Chomp 2.
“Can U Dig That?” is the second single DJ Premier has shared this year, following “Work This Out” with Russ, which was released earlier this month. Snoop Dogg, meanwhile, has dropped a handful of tracks, like “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” (seriously) with David May and “Love You More” from the Bosco soundtrack. He’s also been working on a new album with Dr. Dre — a follow-up of sorts to his classic Dre-produced debut, Doggystyle — which the pair said was close to being finished during a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel.
