De La Soul performed live on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon last night (March 16th).
The hip-hop legends brought their catalogue to streaming earlier this month, after extensive legal wrangling. It marks a potent point of renewal, with a new generation finally getting to absorb De La Soul’s groundbreaking Imperial run.
Sadly, the group lost co-founder Trugoy the Dove in the run up to the release, and his passing cast a shadow over the experience.
De La Soul appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, backed by The Roots for a performance of ‘Stakes Is High’. The original boasted a J Dilla production credit, a studio figure who also worked with the Roots – in a way, it’s a link-up that was meant to happen.
Discussing their music, and the loss of Trugoy – real name David Jolicoeur – DJ Maseo led the audience in a “thank you, Dave” cheer.
