Former two-weight UFC world champion Conor McGregor badly wants to fight in June.
‘The Notorious’ hasn’t competed since a July 2021 trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier. As the story goes, Conor McGregor broke his leg in the final seconds of the first round. As a result, he lost the bout and was forced onto the sidelines for nearly three years. However, according to McGregor, he’s ready to return.
Last year, Conor McGregor was involved in a high-profile feud with USADA. According to the Irishman, he had no issues entering the pool, as he wanted to return to fighting. However, the drug testing company alleged that the UFC wanted them to waive their mandatory six-month testing window. Thus, allowing McGregor to compete, with less testing.
However, USADA has been gone for months now, and Conor McGregor isn’t any closer to returning to the cage. In January, ‘The Notorious’ stated that he hoped to compete on June 29th against Michael Chandler, at the conclusion of International Fight Week. However, Dana White later hit back at those remarks and revealed that the bout would instead happen in the fall.
However, Conor McGregor isn’t a fan of that timeline. On Instagram Stories, the former UFC champion was asked by a fan when he would return to the cage. McGregor responded that he’s still holding out hope for June, but the company’s inaction makes it unlikely. Regardless of whether it’s June or not, he wants a solid answer on his next bout.
Former two-weight champion Conor McGregor opens up on plans for UFC return
“Still holding [out] hope for June 29th.” Conor McGregor responded to a fan on Instagram Stories, asking about his UFC return. “Lack of action on it however is now causing a lack of enthusiasm. I need a decision soon. I am the most tested athlete under this new regime. Yet no date to fight.”
He continued, “This game is a bit lackluster also at the present which isn’t helping. I hope these next few cards pop and I get a date. Eliminate distractions and begin real work towards it.”
In follow-up posts, Conor McGregor clarified a few things about his return schedule. If it’s left up to the Irishman, he would fight Michael Chandler in June, Nate Diaz in September, and Manny Pacquiao in December.
