Celine Plein Soleil at Selfridges Captures the Spirit of the French Riviera

Celine unveils the latest iteration of its Plein Soleil summer pop-up, this time at London’s Selfridges, following a successful run at Harrods last year. Inspired by creative director Hedi Slimane’s love of the south of France, the pop-up displays an array of summertime clothing and accessories reflective of the French Riviera and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

The campaign, photographed by Slimane along the coastline of the French Riviera, captures a nostalgic and adventuring spirit of the area, where Slimane has lived since 2018 and has remained a constant inspiration behind his tenure at Celine. Amongst the sand and stone architecture, key pieces including striped and utilitarian shirts are paired with wide-brimmed straw hats, each made by hand, and darkened aviators, a new variation of the Celine Panier bag, small leather and fabric shoulder bags and even baseball tees and striped mohair knits bear the Celine Triomphe, maintaining the brand’s elevated luxury alongside Slimane’s everpresent mod references in dark flared jeans and folk elements in overly relaxed beachy dresses. As always with Celine, accessories play a pivotal role in the collection, alongside the new variation of the Celine Panier, Slimane offers dark beachy espadrilles, and box straw bags for the summer.

The Selfridges pop-up displays the collection alongside a customised Celine vintage Mini Moke vehicle and Celine Maison Art De Vivre pieces including a signature deckchair and a petanque set. The Mini Moke, originally designed for the military and repurposed as a summer beach convertible, embodies the adventuring and freeing spirit of the seaside towns of the south of France. For this project, the car has been customised with a Triomphe wooden steering wheel, a Triomphe canvas hood and a dashboard featuring tan elements, wicker seats, and spare wheel protection, alongside a golden Triomphe signature that appears on the wheels and gear shift.

Celine Plein Soleil will be at the Selfridges Corner Shop on the ground floor until July 13th 2024.
