Scottish songwriter Callum Beattie has shared his new album ‘Vandals’.

Out now, the record finds the Scottish artist sticking to his roots, working on a deeply independent basis. Lyrically, he deals with working class identity, matching a romantic longing for the past with some doses of brutal realism.

‘Vandals’ builds on the word-of-mouth success of his debut, and finds Callum Beattie doubling down on his natural gift – being able to speak to his peers in a language they can understand.

“I grew up in a post Thatcher Britain, in a fairly rough part of Scotland, raised by my dad, and experienced the poverty and roughness of those times first hand,” he comments. “Culturally, it was a very specific period in history, where you could almost feel the class divide on the local streets. I feel strongly that we are moving towards a culturally similar period in history.”

Set to play a flurry of UK shows this Spring, Callum Beattie touches down at London’s Bush Hall on April 27th. Hitting Glasgow’s beautiful Kelvingrove Bandstand on August 29th, it’s set to be a busy year for the songwriter.

Oh, and one more thing…

The artwork utilises a photograph by Gavin Watson, whose images of Thatcher-era Britain capture a fragmented nation. Callum explains:

“We chose to take a different approach to the artwork and have used an iconic photo by a very iconic photographer called Gavin Watson. Gavin was the inspiration behind Shane Meadows’ ‘This Is England,’ and working with him was a dream come true.”

Tune in now.
