Indie pop group Sungaze unlock maturity on their new self-titled album.
The LP is their third to date, a journey kicked off on their 2019 debut album. Formed by Ian Hilvert and Ivory Snow, Sungaze have grown into a six-piece, with their material expanding with each fresh voice.
Out now, new album ‘Sungaze’ matches five of their heavier moments, songs in keeping with their concert thrust, alongside five rather more intimate moments.
There’s a slight David Lynch feel to some of this, with ‘New Twang’ sounding like Mazzy Star, and the ghost of Galaxie 500 haunting ‘Pity’.
Elsewhere it’s perhaps reminiscent of Beach Fossils or even Widowspeak, with Sungaze moving from crunching guitar chords to whispered incantations.
A self-described yearning for maturity, Sungaze comment…
We like to think of this album as a coming-of-age album. The songs are more personal and direct than we’ve written in the past, and each track on this album details pretty major life themes that have been present for us in the past few years. And as is often displayed in coming of age stories, there was an element of soul-searching and a level of self-acceptance that needed to happen in order for this album to even exist at all.
Tune in now.
