Rising London artist and creative Lyza Jane has dropped her new EP ‘Something In The Rye‘ via BMG. Conjuring an enigmatic, midnight sound ‘Something In The Rye‘ immerses you into the mind of Lyza Jane; a rich sonic journey balancing upper-echelon R&B and trip-hop alongside Lyza’s hedonistic commentary elevated through love, intimacy and the wonders of existence.
Lyza’s smoky vocals shine front and centre from the offset on lead track ‘Everyday’ as she glides over breezy synths and thumping drum breaks produced by Hyroglifics. Paired with a VHS music video directed by Jasmine De Silva, ‘Everyday’ showcases Lyza’s growing influence while empowering listeners who seek solace in their creative journeys.
Steadily manoeuvring through drunken, hazy explorations of love on ‘Falling Like’, we reach the apex of her psychedelic musical makeup across the powerful ‘Up Above’, the tenderness of ‘With Ease’ and the blossoming soul scape ‘Last One Up’, closing out the EP in the purest state of self-realisation as she pleads: “Times up, I can feel me giving up // Never enough.”
Lyza has been surrounded by music culture from an early age. Born in London, she moved to Somerset earning valuable insights into the creative arts in the company of her stepfather. Moving back to the capital at 18, the young talent became a backing singer for South London’s Alabama 3, where she continued to develop her vibrant artistry in their infamous studio above Brixton Jamm.
Following a pivotal performance at Glastonbury, Lyza shifted focus onto producing, recording and writing her own records while quietly earning stripes alongside alt-rap label Blah Records. With a stream of addictive releases under her belt incl. Baby Blue Champion EP, the Londoner unleashed her debut album HOUSEBOUND, featuring UK favourites Lee Scott and Black Josh – establishing her presence across the underground. Performing with Cult Of The Damned across the UK from Thekla Bristol to the iconic Fabric London, Lyza would later release her incendiary cut ‘For Your Eyes Only’ in 2023, a rare link-up featuring LA rapper Vel Nine and Birmingham star Jaydonclover.
Now with an atmospheric, standout body of work promising a slew of new material and critical attention, Lyza Jane is showing the hallmarks of a significant and affective new voice and creative mind coming into her own.
