London based musician Leonard Maassen has shared new album ‘Inside Cycles’ in full.
The electronic composer returns to his roots, digging into his foundation of his music ambitions while also building outwards. Constructed over a number of months, new album ‘Inside Cycles’ moves from club tropes to jazz improvisation, via the odd nod to modern classical, too.
Reminiscent of Björk in places, there’s a deeply personal quality to some of the music on display. ‘Time Remembered’ was prompted by a Bill Evans composition, aided on saxophone by Benjy Sandler.
‘Time Remembered’ meanwhile nods to the classical canon, while sister piece ‘Show Me (The Way)’ reflects the influence of composers such as Anna Thorvaldsdottir and Arvo Pärt.
It’s far from a neo-classical cycle, however, with Leonard Maassen reflecting his passion for club production, at times mirroring the emphatic muscularity of Moderat, say.
The release of ‘Inside Cycles’ will be accompanied by an audio-visual live show at Rich Mix (London) on June 7th.
Tune in now.
