In 2021, Ghostbusters: Afterlife came onto the scene as the first new entry since the mixed 2016 reboot, and as the official Ghostbusters 3 the franchise had been trying to birth for decades. A decent reception and solid box office success ensured it wouldn’t be a one-and-done, and here that sequel is with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Ernie Hudson on Winston’s Evolution and the Future of Ghostbusters

Originally meant to come out last Christmas before getting punted to 2024 because of the Hollywood strikes, Frozen Empire picks up a few years after Afterlife. The Spengler family—Callie (Carrie Coon), Phoebe (McKennna Grace), and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard)—and Paul Rudd’s Grooberson are now doing the Ghostbusters thing in New York again as an official outfit tasked with saving the city from a ghost god looking to build an army and freeze the planet. Like the last movie, Empire’s getting mixed reviews across the board: some like how it channels the vibes of the old Real Ghostbusters cartoon and the nostalgia feels it’s bringing, while others think the series has already managed to burn through its new lease on life and should probably be put down (again) before Sony has the chance to make any more of them.

Ghostbusters is a franchise folks have a long nostalgia for, and their passion (or dispassion) for it really rears its head in the lead-up to a new one. If you saw Frozen Empire, let us know what you thought of it—or what you want to see next from this franchise—down in the comments below
