Mike DiSabato, a close friend of UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman has provided an update on his condition.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Coleman was airlifted to a hospital after saving his parents from a house fire. News station WTOL says Coleman went in to save his parents and got them out, but he went back in for the family dog who unfortunately passed away. The house is believed to be a total loss as the fire reportedly started in the kitchen, but it’s uncertain how the fire started.

Following Mark Coleman being hospitalized, his close friend Mike DiSabato spoke to longtime MMA journalist Josh Gross to give an update on his friend.

“Doctors removed as much soot as possible from his lungs. They are planning to do the same procedure today. He was somewhat conscious after the procedure and squeezed his daughter Morgan’s hand. Still sedated on the incubator,” DiSabato said… “Mark is still not out of the woods.”

It is good news that Mark Coleman was able to squeeze his daughter’s hand and appears to be getting better. But, as his friend says, Coleman is not out of the woods yet, which is similar to what his close friend and fellow former UFC fighter Wes Sims wrote on FaceBook.

“I’m a very firm believer in the power of prayer. I sent family and some friends a few pictures of Mark Coleman’s current condition. I know Mark, if he could talk he’d say ‘film this s***, Wes, we are going viral! “Mark’s parents’ house burnt down last night. Mark saved both [his parents] and went back for Hammer, his dog. He was life flighted to Toledo and is currently intubated and sedated. I swear to God he’s one of the toughest individuals ever created, been through so much a movie at this point could not give his life’s work justice!,” Sims wrote on FaceBook about Mark Coleman.

Mark Coleman went 16-10 in MMA and last competed in 2010 when he was submitted by Randy Couture. Coleman is the inaugural UFC heavyweight champion and holds notable wins over Don Frye, Dan Severn, and Stephan Bonnar among others.
