Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify apps won’t be coming to the Vision Pro, at least to start.

Netflix is on everything. It’s on your phone, computer, and game console, going all the way back to the Nintendo Wii. Hell, you can get your Netflix fix on a Peloton if you really need to work off the vicarious carbo loads of Paul Hollywood while watching the latest season of The Great British Bake Off. One place where Netflix won’t be is Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro VR headset. Why isn’t Netflix planning an app for what is Apple’s big $3,500 gamble on the future of augmented reality? According to co-CEO Greg Peters, it’s because the company doesn’t know if anybody’s actually going to use it. – Kyle Barr Read More

An open PC tower full of dust containing wires and several fans.

This 16-year-old PC has survived two moves with me. I promised myself I’d find a use for its parts. For some reason, I just can’t seem to let it go.

There is enough dust lingering in the bowels of my old, childhood desktop tower to make my roommate sneeze and cough while sitting on the couch 10 feet behind me. It’s been a long time since I dared crack the shell on my ancient PC, a decade and a half since I first put it together. Few products of my childhood years bring me nostalgia, but I turned 30 this past month, and while time doesn’t necessarily bring wisdom it does breed sentimentality. – Kyle Barr Read More

We all want to feel like the sledgehammer, but most of us are merely the screen.
Gif: Apple / YouTube

We are all the sledgehammer, Apple does like to tell its fans. We are all disruptors hurtling toward one great screen, breaking the iron-fisted hold that other tech firms want to impose on us. The hellscape dystopia world of Apple’s famed “1984” commercial modeled after George Orwell’s seminal dystopia 1984 never really came to pass. As silly as it is to say, Apple was right. We didn’t win some nebulous liberation, exactly. We won a whole different soup of tech-based dystopia. – Kyle Barr Read More

A 32-inch curved Alienware monitor with Mortal Kombat 1 Playing.

A PlayStation 5 won’t hit the full 240 Hz, but it still looks rather fine either way.

If you’ve still not had a chance to experience a real, large gaming OLED display, then jumping in front of Alienware’s AW3225QF QD-OLED monitor is akin to submerging your eyes in a warm bath of color. It’s a pleasant feeling, the kind of thing you hope to get from an ultra-premium device. Like a massage, the first time staring at the popping colors of Alienware’s latest curved screen starts with a period of intense stimulation, followed by a sensation of laxity that you simply wish could keep going forever. – Kyle Barr Read More
