Don’t look now, but the centuries-old sport of darts is officially the hottest ticket in town — and on TV — thanks to a little-known 16-year-old who has taken the sport by storm.
Luke Littler doesn’t turn 17 until later this month, but he has thrown his way into the 2024 World Darts Championship Final in the U.K. (and into the hearts of darts fans around the world) with his winning play.
Officially known as the PDC World Darts Championship, this year’s final pits Littler vs. Luke Humphries with the final match airing live from London on Wednesday, January 3 at 7:30 p.m. local time / 2 p.m. ET.

2024 World Darts Championship Final Odds, Predictions
No one could have predicted a PDC World Championship final between Littler and Humphries. The 16-year-old Littler is playing in his first world tournament, and came into the event ranked 164th in the world.
Humphries, meantime, has never made it past the quarterfinals of the tournament, though he’s riding an 18-game winning streak and became the new world number one after reaching the final for the first time. Nicknamed “Cool Hand Luke”, Humphries is only 28 years old himself, further dispelling the notion that darts is still an “old man’s sport.”
Trending
Bookmakers have Humphries as the favorite to win the event, citing his win of three majors since October. Littler of course is the underdog. He turns 17 on January 21 and winning the tournament would undoubtedly be a great birthday present: the winner of the 2024 World Darts Championship takes home £500,000.
